PA middle schooler nets $2,500 for volunteerism

A Morristown sixth grader is one of Vermontâs top two youth volunteers of the year.
Shyla Clayton will receive a $2,500 scholarship for her volunteerism, which involves work at a Morristown thrift store, the local pet adoption center and the halls of her own school, through a nationwide program organized by Prudential Financial.
âWe are all really proud of Shyla and her accomplishment,â Peoples Academy Middle School principal Matt Young said. âShylaâs service to our community is inspiring and provides an important reminder that we can all do more to help our community thrive.â
As one of the 102 top honorees from the 50 states and District of Columbia in the community award program, Shyla will have a chance to be named one of the top 10 youth volunteers for all of America at a national recognition ceremony in April; it will be held virtually. Those top 10 will earn an additional $5,000 scholarship and a $5,000 grant for the charitable organ ....

SHE IS CURRENTLY THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING AT THE MOUNT CARAMEL REHABILITATION AND NURSING CENTER. MY FAMILY WAS IN A FINANCIAL SITUATION IN WHICH I COULD NOT GO BACK TO NURSING SCHOOL. Donors give more than $1.3 million to Trine's Gala fund

ANGOLA â Though the COVID-19 pandemic prevented Trine University from holding its annual Scholarship Gala in person, donors have made sure students will not suffer from its absence.
To date, the university has raised more than $1.3 million through the Trine University 2021 Gala Fund, set up to replace funds that normally would have been contributed at the elegant event. The amount includes a $300,000 match for Books and Beyond scholarships from Trine board chair alumnus Rick L. James and his wife, Vicki L. James, and The James Foundation.
âWe are overwhelmed by the generosity of the many alumni and friends who have supported Trine students during this effort,â said Earl D. Brooks II, Trine president. âThough we were disappointed that we were unable to gather in person, we all recognize that student need has been even more acute during this pandemic. Georgia Senate approves special needs scholarship expansion

A bill that would expand the state s special needs scholarship program was approved Wednesday by the Georgia Senate.
The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship program offers scholarships to students with individualized education plans to attend a private school or a public school of their choice. Senate Bill 47 would make the 58,000 public school students with 504 plans eligible to apply for the program.
Individualized education plans provide special education learning environments for children with certain disabilities, while 504 plans require schools to make accommodations for students while they learn alongside their peers. A 504 plan could provide students with extra time for assessments, breakout instruction or modified assignments, among other things. ....
