ITALY The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has purchased a small but critical parcel near the south end of Canandaigua Lake in the town of Italy. The property is located at the mouth of Clark s Gully, an iconic gorge, and is surrounded by High Tor Wildlife Management Area.
The 3.4-acre parcel features 2,200 feet of frontage on an unnamed creek that flows through the gorge, which is situated on Great Hill. Also known as Nundawao, Great Hill is of special significance to the Seneca Nation. The Seneca refer to themselves as “The People of the Great Hill, or O-non-dowa-gah, and this area is referred to as the place of their origin. ....

I recently received an inquiry from a man who claimed he observed a cougar cross the road a short distance in front of his truck. He was driving south on Route 245, just a short distance from the High-Tor Wildlife Management Area, and the animal crossed from west to east.
He described it as a very large cat, about four feet long with a long tail. And it was tawny in color.
And during the deer season I received an email from a bow hunter who stated he observed a large, cat-like critter walk directly under his deer stand. He described it as a tawny colored cat that was about 3 or 4 feet long and with a long, thick tail. ....

The trails that run above Naples Creek in the High Tor Wildlife Management Area were among our favorites even before Rosie found gold in the snow. Frozen fish, that is.
We approached the trailhead near the state Department of Environmental Conservation public fishing stream. That’s where Rosie came upon a smorgasbord of tiny fish frozen in the snow.
Better than a box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day for Rosie. Should I let her eat them? She said it was perfectly fine. I wondered how these fish got there. Maybe an angler out there has some ideas? ....
