NEW DELHI: To ensure smooth supply of remdesivir used in the treatment of COVID-19 across the country, the allocation of the antiviral drug to the states and union territories has been made up to May 16, Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Sadananda Gowda said on Friday.
The production capacity of remdesivir has been increased to 1.03 crore vials per month, up from 38 lakh vials per month earlier, the minister had said on Tuesday. ....

Additional Allocation Of 25,000 Remdesivir Vials For Karnataka: Minister


Karnataka has been allocated 25,000 additional vials of Remdesivir.
New Delhi:
After reviewing the availability of antiviral drug Remdesivir in Karnataka, it has been decided that allocation of 25,000 vials will be made over and above the allocation made for the state up to April 30, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Sadananda Gowda said on Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Gowda had said the government s decision to waive off customs duty on Remdesivir, used in the treatment of COVID-19, would help in augmenting the supply of the medicine in the wake of soaring coronavirus cases in the country.
Reviewed situation of availability of #Remdesivir in State of Karnataka upon request of State Govt. It has been decided that an additional allocation of 25000 vials will be made over an above allocation made for Karnataka upto April 30, 2021, Mr Gowda tweeted. ....

Customs duty waive off on Remdesivir will further augment domestic availability: Sadananda Gowda


The Minister had earlier asked the State governments to take strict action against anyone found indulged in black marketing or hoarding of Remdesivir.
The government’s decision to waive off customs duty on antiviral drug Remdesivir would help in augmenting the supply of the medicine in the wake of soaring COVID-19 cases in the country, Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Sadananda Gowda said on Wednesday.
The government on Tuesday waived off all customs duty on imported Remdesivir injections and the drug’s active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in order to boost supplies.
There is already a ban on the export of the Remdesivir injection from the country. “Considering the immediate requirement on the recommendation of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the Department of Revenue has reduced customs duty on #Remdesivir and its API/KSM. This step will further augment domestic availability of Remdesivir injection,” Mr. Gowda said in a tweet. ....

Railways to run Oxygen Express to meet high demand
The Indian Railways will run Oxygen Express over the next few days to transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country, the national transporter said on Sunday. Amid spiralling coronavirus cases in the country, the demand for medical oxygen in the country has gone through the roof. 
Empty tankers will begin their journey from Kalamboli and Boisar railway stations in and near Mumbai on Monday to load liquid medical oxygen Vizag, Jamshedpur, Rourkela and Bokaro, officials said. Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra governments had earlier approached the Railways Minis ....
