The British Government has said it would provide consular assistance for the arrested leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. This was disclosed yesterday by the Head of Communications, British High Commission in Nigeria, Dean Hurlock.
As controversies and speculations raged over where and how Kanu was arrested and extradited to the country on Sunday, the British High Commission had earlier dispelled rumours he was arrested in the United Kingdom (UK), where he was based before his arrest in 2015. ....

BurataiHuman Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civil rights advocacy group, has hailed the recent announcement of Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd) as Nigeria’s ambassador to Benin Republic.
The group’s boss, Emmanuel Onwubiko, described the designation as strategic; a masterstroke by President Muhammadu Buhari towards utilising the former army chief’s wealth of experience in service to the country to end the problem of artificial borders.
In a statement jointly signed by National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and Media Affairs Director Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said the appointment of Buratai is a rare display of insight by the President because of the gains that would accrue to the country in the task at hand. ....

How Southeast can overcome insecurity, by RMFAC chair
From the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo came, on Friday, a charge to Southeast youths: stop the violence.
The group said there is nothing to celebrate in violence.
It was reacting to the spate of violence in the zone which has seen gunmen kill, maim and burn government facilities.
But Ohanaeze asked the Federal Government to conduct urgent in-depth investigation into the destruction of lives and property in the region by security agents.
It said the clampdown was unacceptable and warned of the consequences of human rights violations for the country. ....
