Plea in Delhi HC seeking CBI probe in alleged medical mafia-politicians nexus

New Delhi [India], April 29 (ANI): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved to the Delhi High Court seeking registration of an FIR and CBI investigation into alleged medical mafia-politicians nexus operating across the country.
The petition moved by Dr Deepak Singh, chairman of NGO Hrudaya Foundation, stated that politicians of all parties are able to gather huge stocks of Remdesivir, even as they do not have the required permissions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and other specialised provisions.
The petitioner has highlighted several incidents, across political parties, in which politicians have been allegedly involved in largescale hoarding, transfer and distribution of crucial medicines like Remdesivir. Senior Congress leader and former minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, M Sathyanarayana Rao passed away in the early hours of Monday while undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at the Nizam Institute Of Medical Sciences in the city of Hyderabad.

Meneni Sathyanarayana Rao was third among six children of Cheeti Hanumantha Rao and Cheeti Yashodha. He was named as Cheeti Seetharama Rao. He was born on 14th January 1934 in Vedhira village, Ramadugu mandal in Karimnagar district. He has one elder brother, one elder sister, two younger brothers and two younger sisters.
His elder brother Cheeti Babu Rao worked as ASP Karimnagar. His younger brother Cheeti Ayodhyarama Rao is the founder of an educational society named Vaninikethan and the other younger brother was late Cheeti Kishan Rao.His elder sister is late Ramanamma and his younger sisters are Savithri and Pushpalatha. ....

Debabrata Saikia is an Indian politician and a former Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Indian National Congress. He was elected to the state Assembly from Nazira constituency in 2011 and retained the seat in 2016.
Saikia was born on 14 December 1964, in Nazira in the district of Sivasagar, Assam. His father, Hiteswar Saikia, was a former chief minister of Assam, while his mother, Dr Hemoprova Saikia, was a former member of the Assam Assembly. His mother is also a former chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation.

Saikia’s career in politics started formally in the year 1992-93 when he became the General Secretary of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee and the Self-Employed Review Committee. The 64-year-old leader hailed from a traditional business family in Silchar and completed his B.Com from Gauhati University in 1977.
In 1983, Paul joined the BJP as a primary member in the Cachar district. From 1997 to 2002, he was the BJP Ward President of Silchar. Later in 2012, the Assamese leader became the President of the BJP Town Mandal Committee.

Paul was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2014 and in 2016 for the second time, defeating Congress leaders both times.
