ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor City Council Member Jeff Hayner has been removed from several city boards, commissions and committees for using a quote on social media attacking journalists with a homophobic slur.
“Such derogatory language is harmful to the LGBTQ community,” council stated in a resolution Tuesday morning, April 20, condemning Hayner’s remarks and recommending he attend anti-discrimination, diversity and sensitivity training. ....

ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor is moving forward with developing an unarmed public safety response program to have non-police professionals respond to certain 911 calls.
City Council voted unanimously in favor of the idea Monday night, April 5, directing City Administrator Tom Crawford to work with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and others to try to establish a program by the end of 2021.

ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor officials are still divided on whether to allow dedicated short-term rental properties such as Airbnb houses in residential neighborhoods.
City Council gave initial approval to allow existing ones to continue while maintaining a ban on new ones in a pair of 7-4 votes Monday night, April 5.
The regulations await final approval May 3 and they could grant “legal non-conforming status” to 120 or more short-term rental properties in residential areas. ....
