City Council voted unanimously in favor of the idea Monday night, April 5, directing City Administrator Tom Crawford to work with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and others to try to establish a program by the end of 2021. “I’m delighted that we’re going to be moving this forward,” Mayor Christopher Taylor said, adding he has heard time and again that police are asked to do too much and are called to handle matters on which they don’t have expertise. “It’s my belief the residents of Ann Arbor demand that we expand the set of public safety services here in the city.”
