N. Oregon Coast Group Seeks Donations to Aid Distressed Manzanita Businesses

Reedsport to Brookings, places to stay; winter deals
(Manzanita, Oregon) – COVID restrictions and the quarantine in the spring took a heavy toll on north Oregon coast businesses, and all that’s far from over. Manzanita is especially hit hard, which has caused two organizations there to go full-bore on helping out with the North County Business Relief campaign.
The Manzanita Visitors Center and Fulcrum Community Resources have teamed up on various fundraising efforts, but the center said the area is not out of the woods yet.
“We just distributed $6100 to 9 local businesses,” the center said in a press release. “This brings us to a grand total of $102,230 that we have been able to distribute to 65 local businesses. This also depletes our funds again.” ....

Montana's December jobs report concerning, economist says

Montana exited 2020 with 16,600 fewer payroll jobs than it had before the pandemic and a relatively flat recovery, December jobs statistics show.
In the last month of the year, seasonally adjusted payroll jobsÂ increased by just 400, making it the smallest month-to-month improvement since the recessionâs start in March 2020. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics released the jobs data at the start of the week.
âWhat the last four or five months of data has shown, both at the national level and the state level, is that this recovery has just stalled,â said Paul Polzin, economist emeritus at the University of Montanaâs Bureau of Business and Economic Research. âWe need a major injection of federal funds. And I find both the Democrats and the Republicans abysmally at fault for not reacting faster to this stall in the economic trends.â ....

ISSUED BY THE ACTING MAYOR OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE PURSUANT TO ANCHORAGE MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 3.80.060H.
Anchorage case counts have reduced to the level last seen in early October 2020, due to the collective sacrifices required by our previous emergency orders and the individual actions of residents. This improvement warrants another careful loosening of restrictions imposed by EO-17. In order to preserve lives in our community and prevent the need to return to a modified hunker down during the remaining months of this pandemic, Anchorage must loosen restrictions in a way consistent with public health. In the month of January, public schools began a gradual return to the classroom, so more community members will be gathering relative to this fall.
