MAIT: Rajeev Chandrasekhar meets MAIT members to discuss growth in manufacturing sector

NEW DELHI: The Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, held a virtual meeting with senior leaders of Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT), the apex body representing India s ICT sector, to discuss opportunities for manufacturing and R&D in India.
The government endeavours to make India a hub for manufacturing with programs like Make in India and Ease of Doing Business .
In this regard, MAIT, along with other industry leaders, discussed ways to accelerate demand generation, create hubs for electronics, repair and calibration operations, inward and outward processing, building a component manufacturing base in India, and enablement of PLI to grow exports and make it a success. ....

PLI scheme: Benefits of PLI Scheme can be undone by lack of Ease of Doing Business

Synopsis
The PLI Scheme can make a difference to electronic manufacturing in India, but states have to get their act together.
The disconnect between the Centre and different states is an issue which was highlighted by MAIT.
While hailing the government’s PLI scheme, the industry body MAIT (Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology) has advocated the need for increased Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) at different state levels.
PLI is a well laid out strategy that pushes manufacturers to revisit their supply chain domestically and aspire for export-led growth, Nitin Kunkolienker, president, MAIT, said at its Electronics Manufacturing Summit held on Thursday. ....

Cabinet approves over Rs 12,000-crore PLI scheme for telecom sector

Following the launch of a production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for manufacturing, India on Wednesday launched the scheme for telecommunications (telecom) and networking products, with an outlay of Rs 12,195 crore over five years.
The Cabinet approved PLI for manufacturing telecom equipment, including core transmission equipment, 4G/5G next-generation radio access network and wireless equipment, access and customer premises equipment, Internet of Things-access devices, other wireless equipment, and enterprise equipment like switches, routers, etc.
The scheme will be operational from April 1 this year. The eligibility for the scheme will be subject to achieving a minimum threshold of cumulative investment and incremental sales of manufactured goods, said the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in a statement. ....
