Musician Beverly Glenn-Copeland on growing up black and gay in Philadelphia, and finding fame at 70

In 1961, Glenn-Copeland was living as a lesbian woman; so, when he enrolled at McGill University in Montreal, he became the music department’s first Black student and the campus’s only openly gay person, eight years before homosexual relationships were decriminalised in Canada. Glenn-Copeland was forbidden from leaving his dormitory but when it became clear he wouldn’t stay put, he and his partner were provided a furnished apartment, away from the other students.
However, the Assistant Dean of Women, who wanted Glenn-Copeland removed, had begun to collude with his parents. One afternoon, Glenn-Copeland was bundled into a car by his parents intending to take him for electroconvulsive therapy, to “cure” him. As he tells it, “My parents pulled a number on me and physically took me to this doctor who was going to put me in hospital and have me zapped in the head.” ....

Now, the bad news: There s a new social media platform!
It s called MeWe, which could be the most infantile name for a website until WinkieTinkle comes along. It s quite popular, with 2.5 million sign-ups in recent weeks. By contrast, Facebook has 11 billion members, which includes everyone on this planet and the backup duplicate planet the tech giants have built on the other side of the sun. (It s full of clones.)
I signed up for MeWe immediately, for several reasons.
1. I always stake out my own name on any new platform, so no one takes it. I use my own name online, because it keeps me honest and civil. You re more inclined to act like a sanctimonious ranter if you re Bob945. Of course, if your name is really Bob945, let er rip, I guess. ....

Trump cannot make his move until Biden is sworn in and affixes his signature to whatever documents finalize the end of the Trump administration. Until then, the treasonous coup d’etat is merely an incomplete target in motion.
