It is no revelation that John John Florence releases quality films. He and his team have a sense for the stunning, the beautiful. But it continues to take one back that Mr. Florence can release new film, after new film, new edit, after new edit, and each is on par or a step better than the last.

TOKYO (Reuters) - The Olympics must not be a burden on medical systems, Japan’s chief government spokesman said on Friday, amid worries that daily athlete testing will tax health resources already stressed in fighting a rebound of COVID-19 cases.
The Games will be held in a manner that makes everyone feel safe, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato told reporters, responding to concerns raised by a nurses’ union that the world’s biggest sporting event will sap medical resources needed by the public. ....

La Bomba Wasn't the Biggest Wedge Swell, But It Was One of the Heaviest

There was plenty of anticipation for the West Coast’s first official solid south swell of the season and that typically means
a lot of attention turns toward Newport Beach.
La Bomba, as it was called, didn’t light up the entire coast the way some had hoped but it definitely didn’t disappoint at the Wedge. While this wasn’t the biggest surf I’ve ever seen the Wedge, it may have produced some of the heaviest waves I’ve seen there.
I filmed at the Wedge starting Friday (April 23) all the way through Sunday (April 25). I saw wipeouts. I saw carnage. I saw people fly out of barrels victoriously and I saw plenty of doors shut down on others who had no chance. The Wedge’s trademark side wave was working throughout the swell, making for an entertaining show the entire weekend. ....

Ok, it’s not as long as Namibia and plenty of barrels required a doggy door escape, but any wave that can draw a comparison to one of the world’s longest barrels is worth a look.
“I may be over-exaggerating a little bit, it’s just that freaking good,” Nate Florence says after a four-hour session. “As good of conditions as…I’m just tripping right now.”
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what a year of travel restrictions and quarantines has done to us. Florence hasn’t had many (if any) opportunities to go on a surf trip in the past 12 months and it looks like a quick jaunt over to Mexico brought on a flood of claims and the miscalculate comparison to a certain African stretch of sand. ....
