Why is Tower Health adding urgent care centers amid financial struggles?

Even as the pandemic sent a shock through Tower Health s shaky finances, the West Reading-based health system continued to open more urgent care centers.
Since it announced layoffs of 1,000 employees in June, Tower has opened seven new urgent care centers in Chester, Montgomery and Berks counties.
The most recent opening in Hamburg follows Tower s restructuring of its physician practices, Tower Health Medical Group, affecting nearly 200 doctors and other staff. The consolidation is expected to improve Tower s financial performance by $70 million by the end of June.

Berks woman admitted fatally stabbing fiance with kitchen knife, then returning it to the knife block, detectives say

Investigators provided insight Wednesday in a court filing in the first suburban slaying in Berks County this week while the investigation continues into a second homicide, both from domestic violence incidents.
Jillian R. Blimline, 38, initially told police that she was decorating the Christmas tree Sunday night in the dining room of a split-level home in the first block of Maywood Avenue in South Heidelberg Township.
She heard a noise and in her peripheral vision saw Chad A. Macwilliam, 39, on the floor with a pair of scissors in his chest. She called 9-1-1, requesting medical attention for her fiance.
