US stock index futures dip ahead of weekly unemployment claims data

U.S. stock index futures ticked lower on Thursday as investors turned to weekly unemployment claims data amid fears that signs of an improving economy would lead the Federal Reserve to start tapering its accommodative monetary policy.
Worries about rising inflation and a potential tightening of policy have weighed on Wall Street's main indexes in May, with the benchmark S&P 500 on course for its smallest monthly gain in four.
Those concerns, however, eased this week as a number of Fed officials said the central bank would maintain its dovish stance, even as they acknowledged they were closer to debating reining in support.

Ignoring inflation concern, global markets turn bullish
Indian markets are likely to open marginally lower on Friday even as the US stocks ended with sharp gains on Thursday. Asian markets too rallied in early trade on Friday.  However, according to analysts, bears may take a pause on Friday.

In April 2020, something unprecedented happened in the oil markets: the price of West Texas Intermediate plunged below zero. The slump was due to a combination of oversupply, plunging demand and a shortage of storage space in the United States. Oil prices have since recovered, but could it ever happen again? Also today, we find out how some of Greece's smaller islands are preparing for tourists to return, as the country lifts quarantine requirements for travellers from the EU and US.
