Bartleby’s Revenge is a book for those who like a psychological mystery served with commentary on what it takes to get a grip on life. Intertwined is the thread of the story “Bartleby” by Herman Melville, about a man who for mysterious reasons “prefers not to” engage in life. What might it take for someone with this approach to change? The novel is a journey that conveys the effect of Vietnam on a generation coming of age during the flowering counter-culture that emphasized peace and love. The U.S. Volunteer Army did not exist.
