PHILADELPHIA – The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has won dismissal of a lawsuit filed by an Arizona man for sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of a local priest when he was a boy, with a federal judge concluding that Pennsylvania’s two-year statute of limitations stopped the case from proceeding.
John Doe first filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey on Dec. 2, 2019 versus the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
The plaintiff, now 53, and his siblings grew up attending Catholic schools in Bucks County, within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He met Rev. James Brzyski in 1977, who then became a “fixture” in his family’s home, routinely celebrating Mass there with the plaintiff and family. ....

PHILADELPHIA – A Bucks County man and fencing instruction facility owner alleges he was defamed by the MyLife.com website, claiming that its promise to subscribers to reveal damaging legal information about him was shown to be false.
Mark Holbrow of New Hope filed suit in the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 3 versus MyLife.com, Inc., of Los Angeles, Calif.
Holbrow is the owner and operator of the Bucks County Academy of Fencing, an athletic facility which has provided lessons and competitive training in the sport of fencing to all ages, particularly children. It was said the plaintiff substantially relies on his reputation for personal and business development. ....

PHILADELPHIA – A federal judge has granted a motion to quash six subpoenas in a racial discrimination, employment discrimination and hostile work environment case filed by a Black engineer at Temple University.
U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Judge Chad F. Kenney issued a decision on Feb. 24, granting a motion from plaintiff Stephen Branch to quash the desired subpoenas, in an action he filed against defendants Temple University, Sean Ounan and Sharon Boyle.
Branch, a Roving Engineer employed by Temple University for more than 15 years, says he was unjustly terminated on Jan. 29, 2020, after years of enduring discriminatory and disparate treatment because of his race, by defendant Ounan and other Caucasian engineering supervisors. ....

PHILADELPHIA – The City of Philadelphia Police claims that the arrest of a street preacher locally known as “Philly Jesus” when he was evangelizing in a public park just before Christmas in 2019 was justified, per a policy publicly available to citizens and any insinuation of the contrary should lead to the case being dismissed.
Plaintiff Michael Grant first filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Feb. 7 versus the City and 11 unnamed Philadelphia Police Department officers.
Grant, 33, described himself in the lawsuit a street preacher and evangelist who maintains no permanent home and earns no regular income, outside of the charity of friends and family. Grant is also known among many Philadelphia citizens as “Philly Jesus,” due to his perceived physical resemblance to Jesus Christ. ....
