UNIQUE DISPLAYS â John Gregg Elementary custodian Fred Stine took the time to brighten up the school with his unique displays. From holiday to jungle themes, Stineâs creations delight students and capture their imagination while educating them in the process.
BERGHOLZ When Fred Stine looks at the empty display case at John Gregg Elementary, he sees a blank canvas.
The school custodian, who has been with the Edison Local School District for six years and most recently served at Edison High School, has filled the case with colorful and well-crafted designs since taking on his latest role last year. From holiday themes to the current jungle exhibit, Stine says he likes giving the kids something exciting to view while also educating them in the process. ....

Edison hosting virtual Family Literacy Night Wednesday | News, Sports, Jobs

HAMMONDSVILLE The Edison Local School District is making reading fun with a sports-themed virtual Family Literacy Night on Wednesday.
District Assistant Superintendent Julie Kireta said activities will take place online through Google Meets from 6-7 p.m. and is aimed at Stanton and John Gregg Elementary students.
The theme is âReading: A Sport for All Seasonsã and will include books, crafts, activities, snacks and even some possible appearances from school and NFL athletes and mascots. âItás going to be for kindergarten to third grade,ã Kireta said. âWe will have Google Meet set up and send a link through the district email to the grade bands. Teachers also will put it in their Google Classroom stream so there are two ways to participate. We will do one per grade level and then weáll have random prizes for students.ã ....

BERGHOLZ The Bergholz Community Foundation will offer scholarships for the 2021-22 school year with applications are available.
Students eligible for consideration for the scholarships are 2021 high school graduates who reside in the Edison Local School District.
Scholarships also are available to nontraditional students. These applicants must be past graduates of Edison High School or one of the Edison School District’s consolidated high schools, who are seeking a first-time associate or undergraduate degree or technical training.
Edison High School students may obtain scholarship applications from the Edison guidance office. Scholarship applications can be obtained from the foundation’s website at www.bergholzfoundation.org or by forwarding a request and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Bergholz Community Foundation, P.O. HAMMONDSVILLE The Edison Local School District is looking to reduce chronic absenteeism and is seeing some positive results with the addition of a new truancy officer.
School board members approved the hiring of Anthony Pierro during the Feb. 25 regular meeting, but his contract is retroactive to Feb. 1. Superintendent Bill Beattie said Pierro’s presence already has yielded improvements among student attendance and leaders want to maintain the momentum.
“We’ve been monitoring our chronic absenteeism since the beginning of October and there’s so much responsibility on the principals, guidance counselors and SRO’s, so the board made a commitment to hire someone to handle absenteeism in the district,” Beattie said. ....
