Obaseki urges improved collaboration to strengthen Edo healthcare system for quality service delivery


BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has called for increased collaboration between the government and all stakeholders in the health sector to redesign and strengthen the state’s healthcare system for quality service delivery to the people.
Obaseki, during a stakeholders’ workshop, at the Government House, Benin City, reassured that his government will sustain reforms in the healthcare system to reposition the state as Nigeria’s medical hub.
According to him, “the current healthcare system that we are operating was put in place about 50 years ago by the then Governor of Bendel State, late Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia. It’s high time we redesigned a new one for optimal service delivery.

COVID-19: Edo immunises over 37,000 persons, extends first phase vaccination exercise


The Edo State Government has announced the extension of the first phase of COVID-19 vaccination across the state’s 18 local councils to enable more people to receive the vaccine and get protected against the deadly virus.
The State’s COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the state has so far vaccinated over 37,000 persons, including health workers, strategic leaders and other frontline workers.
Obi further urged all eligible citizens for the first phase vaccination exercise to leverage the extension to get inoculated at various designated centres across the state.
The Incident Manager, who reassured the government’s commitment to ending the pandemic and ensuring the health of citizens, noted that the second dose vaccination for the first phase will commence in June, 2020.

BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has strengthened its response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, stepping up preventive measures to avoid a third wave of the pandemic.
Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Osamwonyi Irowa, who represented Governor Godwin Obaseki during a press conference, said the government is committed to winning the war against the pandemic and ensuring the health of citizens.
According to him, the measures will guide religious gatherings, schools, markets and shops, transportation, hotels, lounges, bars and restaurants, social gatherings including weddings, anniversaries and funerals and the state’s civil and public service.
For religious gatherings, some of the guidelines include, “COVID-19 Monitoring/Enforcement Team should be reactivated and remain functional; provide hand-washing stations with running water and liquid soap, and alcohol based hand sanitizers at entry and exit points; conduct temperature checks at entrance points; ensure correct and consistent use of facemasks; sitting should not exceed maximum of 50 percent of capacity per session.

COVID-19: Edo embarks on vaccination campaign for teachers ahead of schools' reopening – Nigerian Observer


BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has kicked off coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination campaign for private and public school teachers across the state’s 18 local government areas ahead of schools’ reopening on Monday, May 10, 2020.
The Edo State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the weekend in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
He explained that the exercise is part of efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to contain the pandemic and ensure the health and safety of citizens.
Obi said the vaccination exercise for the teachers, which commenced on Saturday, May 08, 2021 will end on May 14, 2021, when the state will round off the first phase of the vaccination.

The Edo State Government will on Thursday, May 6, 2021 meet with relevant stakeholders in the South-south region to deepen awareness of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination exercise, address hesitancy and improve vaccine uptake in the region.
The state’s COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the event will bring together stakeholders in the region, including religious, political and traditional leaders, among other strategic leaders.
He said the town hall meeting will take place at the Festival hall in Government House, Benin City, noting that all was set for the successful hosting of the parley.
