COVID-19 prompts lockdown in northwestern N.B.

COVID-19 UPDATE (MONDAY)
Medical Officer, DR. Jennifer Russel says extensive contact tracing work and
the cooperation of residents has limited the risk of community transmission
in those regions.
Moncton region will stay red for now.  Public Helath says it hopes to be able
to recomend the other health zones;  Bathurst, Campbellton and Miramichi,
return to the yellow phase later this week.
Meanwhile Dr. Russel announced 27 new confirmed cases in New Brusnwick on Monday,
with four of those in Moncton, one in Saint John, three in Federicton, and 19
in the Edmundston-Grand Falls halth zone.  Public Health is also reporting a ....

there seems to be a problem with low testing numbers in this region.
Mayor Lordon tells the Leader he was told by Public Health officials at a
meeting this week that this area’s testing rate is an issue…it’s the lowest
in the province. We have had only six confirmed cases of COVID in the
Miramichi since the beginning of the pandemic…and none during the second
wave. People are asking to be tested.
The Mayor says he got the impression Public Health officials are concerned ....

COVID update
another milestone with 1,025 cases since the pandemic began.
Public Health says half of the new cases are in the Edmundston/Grand Falls
region, six in the Moncton area; two in Saint John and one each in the
Fredericton and Campbellton health zones.  (still no cases in the Miramichi.)
A new outbreak has also been declared at a special care home in Edmundston
where the province’s Rapid Outbreak Management Team has now been deployed.
There are now 317 active case of the virus in New Brunswick, including two
people in hospital…one of them in intensive care. ....

Another 26 cases are being reported in the province yesterday…9 are in Saint John region, 7 each in Moncton and Fredericton, 2 in Edmundston and 1 in the bathurst region. The Miramichi is still COVID free.
All cases are self isolating and under investigation.  There are currently
304 active cases in New Brunswick, but only one patient is in hospital.
With the number of cases turning up in the three largest cities in the province…Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton….the premier and chief medical officer of health are considering whether to move them to the red phase and its much tighter restrictions later this week. ....
