Pentagon budget 2022: US Navy requests increased unmanned investments

The US Navy (USN) is looking to grow its unmanned portfolio with funding requests for subsea, surface, and aerial systems in the service’s proposed fiscal year (FY) 2022 budget proposal, released on 28 May.
The navy requests about USD268.9 million for the Unmanned Carrier Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCLASS) programme, which was recently restructured with near-term focus on the new Unmanned Carrier Aviation n(UCA)/MQ-25 Stingray programme and accelerated fielding timelines.
Boeing and Naval Air Systems Command have been testing the unmanned MQ-25A T1 prototype. (Boeing Phantom Works) ....

McKean supports USN Future Surface Combatant - Naval Warfare

McKean Defense leads team to provide hull, electrical, mechanical and other services for Future Surface Combatant.
Hull, mechanical and electrical controls in the USN Future Surface Combatant programme will be supported by a team led by McKean Defense Group, under a $20.1 million contract from Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD).
The five-year deal, announced by McKean Defense on 16 March, covers machinery, electric plant, propulsion, auxiliary, damage control, and ship control system programmes.
Work also includes navigation, interior communications domain networks, condition based monitoring, voyage data recorders, and digital video surveillance system engineering.
Joseph Carlini, CEO of McKean Defense, said the company has assembled a team ‘ready to support the complex Future Surface Combatant design solutions’ which are essential for the future US programme. ....

PHILADELPHIA, March 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ McKean Defense Group, LLC announced today that the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) awarded the company a single award contract worth more than $20.1M. This contract has a five-year period of performance and is intended to support Future Surface Combatant Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) Controls programs of Code 516.
