Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, has announced that amendments to the Domestic Violence Act will be brought to the House of Representatives before the end of June.
“We are serious about ending domestic violence. The Chief Parliamentary Counsel is preparing the amendments, which I expect to bring to this House before the end of June,” she said, during her contribution to the 2021/22 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 8. ....

PCW appeals for 'safe spaces' for women

In a statement on Thursday, April 8, PCW pointed out that all forms of sexual harassment in the employment, education or training environment are unlawful under Republic Act (RA) 7877 or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act. 
“Violence against women, sexual harassment, and all other forms of gender-based violence are manifestations of unequal power relations between women and men, where the latter are seen as superior,” it said.
“It is a social phenomenon where men misuse and abuse power to subjugate women and assert male privilege,” it added.
The PCW urged the public to help in ending gender-based violence, treat women as humans with equal rights, and help build a community where gender-based violence including sexual harassment is never justified. ....

Tax exemption sought for donated COVID-19 vaccines, other supplies
A SENATOR is seeking to exempt donated vaccines and other medical supplies used for the coronavirus response from donor’s tax. Senator Juan Edgardo M. Angara filed Senate Bill No. 2046, which proposes the tax holiday to be in effect starting this year to 2023. “In order to bolster the supply of vaccines, this bill makes it easier to accept donations of critical products, essential goods, equipment or supplies needed to contain and mitigate COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), including the vaccines, by exempting these from donor’s tax for a definite period, subject to certain conditionalities,” Mr. Angara said in his explanatory note. The measure covers raw materials for personal protective equipment (PPE), all drugs, vaccines medical devices for treatment, equipment for waste management and other supplies as well as equipment as determined by the Department of Health (DoH) and the Department of Trade a ....
