BUFFALO, N.Y. With Derek Chauvin s conviction, there is a renewed push to address police-community relations and make reforms nationally and here at home.
We ve done nothing to change the way policing works, we have not done anything to deter the way police operate, said De Jon Hall, a community activist.
Even with Chauvin s conviction, he and many community leaders say both nationally and locally a lot more work needs to be done to address police-community relations. ....

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Police in Buffalo are seeing a disturbing spike in gun violence.
Numbers provided to 7 Eyewitness News from the Buffalo Police Department show 72 people have been shot so far this year in the Queen City. Of those shot, 20 have died.
That’s significantly higher than last year, when, during the entire year 36 people were shot, and 10 died.
“We’re not being protected here in this community. There’s only so much anti-violence groups can do,” said Pastor James Giles of the Buffalo Peacemakers. “We have far too many weapons on our city streets.” ....

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — According to the Buffalo Police Department, shootings were up 87% in 2020.
January is looking grim for crime in the city in 2021. According to Buffalo Police, 33 people were shot last month. Of those 33 people, eight of them died.
Compared to 2020, those numbers are high. During the same month a year ago, there were 11 shooting victims and three shooting homicides.
Police say they believe it’s the state of the world we live in right now. The Buffalo Police Union is extremely concerned. ....
