Doha: Sidra Medicine and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) have jointly established a new paediatric orthopaedic oncology surgery service.
The service is the first of its kind to be offered to children and young people diagnosed with primary bone or soft tissue cancer including benign and cancerous tumours. The multidisciplinary service is also the first of its kind to be offered in the State of Qatar for children and young people. 
In addition to paediatric orthopaedic oncology surgery, the service is supported by other sub-specialties such as diagnostic and interventional radiology, pathology, medical and radiation oncology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy and is available at both Sidra Medicine and HMC’s Bone and Joint Centre. ....

Hospitals in Northwest Indiana have been at the center of the Region’s response to COVID-19 throughout the yearlong global pandemic.
They put off elective surgeries and other non-urgent treatments last year to repurpose space for extra intensive care beds during several peak periods of coronavirus infection. Currently they are injecting hundreds of people each day with the COVID-19 vaccine that everyone hopes will bring an end to the health care emergency.

A dislocated shoulder is a common sports injury that can occur with a single swing of the tennis racket or an awkward fall on the field. Though popping the bone back into the socket may seem like a simple solution, the reality is more complex.
The injury can sometimes require an operation, and improper surgical technique and healing can further exacerbate the injury. This puts individuals at increased risk for future dislocation or joint disease later in life.
To tackle this issue, multidisciplinary researchers from the University of Pittsburgh will use an award from the National Institutes of Health to study an individualized approach that may improve surgical outcomes and help athletes avoid lasting repercussions. ....
