LANSING, Mich. â In November, Governor Whitmer announced that she would shut down Canadian-based Enbridge s Line 5 pipeline, citing environmental concerns that the pipeline s infrastructure was outdated and at risk for an oil spill in the Great Lakes.
The deadline she set was 180 days from the announcement on May 12. At midnight on Wednesday, Enbridge will be officially past the deadline.
The pipeline company says that it does not plan to shut down operations unless a court or regulator instructs it do so. A spokesperson for Enbridge says the company believes the state does not have the power to stop operations and considers it a federal matter. ....

PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) and some other political parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have asked their leaders and workers to celebrate Eidul Fitr at home and avoid holding gatherings and functions in view of the rising coronavirus cases.
In a statement issued from Bacha Khan Markaz, ANP provincial president Aimal Wali Khan said the third wave of the coronavirus was more dangerous than its first and second waves. He said this situation warranted that the traders, business community and general public as well as the political parties must follow and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other safety protocols set by the World Health Organisation against the Covid-19. ....

Since 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, we have witnessed and mourned the deaths of millions of people. Given the rising number of cases, it’s better that people avoid any form of extravagance this Eid. Following SOPs should be our top priority. We should hold virtual parties and must help the weak and needy in whatever way we can.
