Traveller Letters: What I'm prepared to do to be allowed to travel overseas

LET ME OUT
With some countries cautiously opening their borders to fully-vaccinated tourists, I d like to leave Australia to travel. I would not qualify for an exemption under the current rules but I m prepared to do the following: stay away for at least three months, pay a bond to cover quarantine costs on my return, and sign a waiver saying that I wouldn t expect the Australian government and its diplomats to help me get home. Is this a possible plan to get us travelling overseas again?

Frustrated Victorians whose weddings and holidays were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic are taking legal action in a bid to recoup money.
In one recent case, a couple whose large wedding at the Collingwood Children’s Farm was cancelled received a $9230 refund from an events company after pursuing action in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Maria and Lou Larubina are taking legal action to recoup money from a travel company that refused to refund their deposit on a trip cancelled because of the pandemic. ....

Queensland retirees who can not get a refund for a cancelled Japanese holiday have been urged to spend their credit on whitegoods with inflated prices from the travel companyâs sister retailer.
The Sunshine Coast couple saved almost $15,000 so they could have âone last hurrahâ after spending almost 40 years travelling the world.
Greg and Cheryl Doyle booked a 20-day trip to Japan in September 2019 but it was called off in March last year.

But Melbourne-based Inspiring Vacations said its refunds policy, offering money back only in certain circumstances and listing a pandemic as not constituting a refund, was in place before COVID-19. ....
