Andrew Laming defends fresh funding to organisations run by LNP branch president

“Records indicate no member of parliament conflict of interest declarations were received with respect to these grants,” a department spokesperson said late last week.
In the latest round of grants, announced by Laming last week, Community Connections received $14,885 for the purchase of cinema equipment, while Redlands Coast Salad Bowl received a $5,000 grant for solar panels.
This is in addition to a $10,000 grant received by Community Connections and an $11,500 grant received by Redlands Salad Bowl before the last election.
According to information obtained from the Queensland Office of Fair Trading, the two organisations were both officially registered in August 2018 and they received the grants just four months later in the run-up to the 2019 federal election. ....

HomeBuilder applicants miss out on $25k grant because of online technical issues

State and Federal Governments are facing growing backlash from HomeBuilder applicants who say they have missed out on a grant of up to $25,000 because of glitches or technical issues with the online application process.
Clint Calman, from Southport, Queensland, bought his $599,000 townhouse off the plan from developers on December 23 last year.
The added incentive of a $25,000 HomeBuilder grant was one of the main reasons he decided to build a new home, he says.

It was a mad rush at the time because if you hadn t executed your contract by the 31st of December the grant would drop down from $25,000 to $15,000 - so everyone wanted to get it done in time, Mr Calman told nine.com.au. ....

Both organisations were co-founded by the president of the Liberal National party’s Redlands branch, Craig Luxton. The secretary of both of the organisations is Laming’s own electorate officer, Stephanie Eaton.
Guardian Australia has previously reported that Laming awarded a $550,000 grant to a rugby club with links to Eaton under the government’s female facilities and water infrastructure scheme – a $150m grant program that was allocated during the election campaign.

Queensland retirees who can not get a refund for a cancelled Japanese holiday have been urged to spend their credit on whitegoods with inflated prices from the travel companyâs sister retailer.
The Sunshine Coast couple saved almost $15,000 so they could have âone last hurrahâ after spending almost 40 years travelling the world.
Greg and Cheryl Doyle booked a 20-day trip to Japan in September 2019 but it was called off in March last year.
