CLERMONT, Fla. – Community members came together with administrators, teachers, and former students on Tuesday to mark the closing of Clermont Middle School.
The school is scheduled to be demolished later this year and replaced with a new school that will serve students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
“I can say with great confidence, Clermont Middle School was a true gem for our community through all these years,” Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks said. ....

A 14-year-old boy faces several charges, accused of keeping a hit list of classmates and staff at his middle school. The student, who has not been named due to his age, attended West Clermont Middle School. According to officials with the Clermont County Sheriff s Office, the eighth-grader kept a list of individuals whom he planned to harm. School officials were made aware of the list on Wednesday, and an investigation was launched in collaborations with the sheriff s office. Sheriff s deputies say they spoke with the boy, who told detectives he made the so-called hit list, but added he had no intention on carrying it out. The safety of staff and students within our schools is and will remain a priority of the sheriff s office. We will continue to encourage students to report any issue that jeopardizes the safety of students on campus, a statement from Clermont ....

An 8th-grade student accused of keeping a hit list of classmates and staff at his middle school is facing multiple charges.
According to the Clermont County Sheriff s Office, administrators at West Clermont Middle School were made aware on Wednesday morning that a student was displaying a list of names, including students and staff, he planned to harm.
School officials contacted the sheriff s office and searched the student s property and found the list of names.
Investigators arrived at the school and spoke with the student who said he made a hit list but had no intention of carrying it out. ....
