Red Sox Scholars applications now open for Boston Public Schools students

Eligible BPS and Charter School Seventh Graders Encouraged to Apply for Award-winning College Success Program

BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox Foundation is now accepting applications for their award-winning Red Sox Scholars program, which provides $10,000 scholarships to 12 students annually from the Boston Public Schools and charter schools. The program, which is now in its 19th year, is presented by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), the Official Hospital & Official Health Care Provider of the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be enrolled as a full-time 7th grade student in the Boston Public School District or at a Boston Public Charter School, demonstrate strong academic potential and financial need. Scores of private charitable foundations, set up by some of the nation s wealthiest people, received money from the federal government s Paycheck Protection Program, which was created last spring to save jobs at small businesses as the coronavirus tanked the economy.
NPR has identified at least 120 foundations that collectively received more than $7.5 million in PPP funding. That s a small slice of the overall program, which disbursed about a half-trillion dollars, but some of the foundations are linked to individuals of considerable means: an oil magnate, a cable television tycoon, a dermatologist called the father of modern hair transplantation, and an aviation entrepreneur who founded companies with annual sales of more than a billion dollars. ....
