Editor’s note: The submissions are from concerned parents and teachers who highlighted student assignments on white privilege and systemic racism and pressured ‘Equity’ training for staff as examples of the promotion of the controversial ideology in public schools.
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson in March announced the launch of a task force to address growing concern grew among public school parents about political and cultural indoctrination in the classroom, specifically related to Critical Race Theory.
The task force, called Fairness and Accountability in the Classroom for Teachers and Students , or F.A.C.T.S., is composed of education professionals representing all levels of K-12 including teachers, administrators, and university professors. The group opened a submission portal for concerned parents, teachers, and residents to report examples of possible indoctrination in violation of the Code of Ethics for North Carolina Educators. ....

Wake County Schools cancels traditional proms, releases altered graduation plans for 2021


The district said families can plan to receive that information before April 9.
WCPSS also announced that high schools will not be able to host traditional proms.
Instead, each high school will host an event to safely celebrate graduating seniors and help to create memories that are an important part of the high school experience, the district said.

Snow day changes: Wake County Schools alters plans in remote learning world


Some have decided to cancel them altogether.
If we did have a snow day, meaning kids couldn t physically go to school, we still have remote learning in place, Mayor Bill de Blasio said in December.
The Wake County Public Schools System sent a letter to parents this week saying that during the 2020-2021 school year, an asynchronous learning day will be used when the weather prevents the district from having classes.
That means that schools will take into consideration that winter weather and snow days are a time-honored celebration in our community and assign work accordingly.
While there will be requirements for work, families should expect to also have time to celebrate their own traditions, the letter said. ....

WCPSS update: Wake County Schools board discusses in-person learning while NC continues to see troubling COVID-19 metrics


WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) In a Tuesday meeting, the Wake County Public Schools System school board discussed the return to in-person learning and adding substitute teacher jobs.
The school board voted unanimously in mid-December to move to fully remote learning from Jan. 4 to 15 because of rising COVID-19 case counts.

There s a desperate need for teacher positions in Wake County public schools.
Board Chairman Keith Sutton told ABC11 that having enough staff at schools has been a concern. That s because as cases rise, more teachers have to quarantine or isolate.
