Loans available for Gladstone students
GLADSTONE The Gladstone Scholarship and Student Loan Foundation will be awarding interest-free $2,000 loans to Gladstone High School graduates pursuing further education for the 2021-22 academic year.
Alumni may receive up to four annual loans during their lifetimes. Applications will be available beginning May 1 in the high school office. The deadline for submission is June 11 and both parent and student signatures are required on the forms. ....

ESCANABA Ruth Sinks Dubbelde, of Escanaba, passed away on January 4, 2020 on the morning of her 95th birthday. Ruth was born on a farm on the banks of the Mississippi River in Cache, Illinois to Gussie Lelle (Davis) and William Arthur Sinks. She graduated from Cairo High School and the University of Illinois, earning a business degree in commerce and marketing. While at the university, she met Hank Dubbelde in a business class and lent him one of her books. That was the beginning of their love story.
After graduation, they married and moved to Dearborn, Michigan. Ruth worked in management at J.L. Hudsons in Detroit where she developed her wonderful sense of fashion, especially her love of high heels. After her two daughters were born, she volunteered at her eldest daughter’s first grade class and fell in love with teaching. Ruth went back to college and earned her elementary education degree at Wayne State University and began her next chapter teaching 1st ....

MACKINAW CITY, Mich. – Paul Peppler Caswell, passed away on Dec. 18, 2020, while reading in his chair in his family’s cottage looking out over the Straits of Mackinac in Mackinaw City, Mich., where he had gone to do some deer hunting. Paul was born in Cheboygan, Mich. on Aug. 26, 1949, the son of Merle and Catherine (Peppler) Caswell. He grew up in Mackinaw City, lived and worked in several places, and was a long-time resident of Escanaba, Mich.
Paul graduated from Mackinaw City High School in 1967, attended Central Michigan University and Ohio State University, and graduated from Central Michigan in 1971 with his political science and history degree. Paul earned his J.D. from Ohio Northern University Law School in 1974. He paid for school with summer jobs, including his favorite of captaining a Straits Transit ferry to Mackinac Island. ....
