Steel magnate Sanjeev Gupta had even closer links to Lex Greensill’s Greensill Capital than most people realise, with a report to creditors on the collapsed Greensill entity in Australia revealing Mr Gupta at one point was a shareholder in the company.
Buried deep in the lengthy report by administrators Grant Thornton is an intriguing list of shareholders and former shareholders of Greensill Capital Pty Ltd.
Sanjeev Gupta was once a shareholder in Greensill Capital Pty Ltd.

Among the “previous shareholders” listed in Section G of the report is Sanjeev Gupta, who had 13,170 Class A shares in Greensill Capital. The report did not specify when he sold out of the company. ....

Lex Greensill, the founder of Greensill Capital, could be hauled before public examinations by liquidators as they probe the reasons behind the $9 billion companyâs unexpected collapse.
Administrators of the fallen financierâs Australian head company have recommended the group be placed in liquidation given they have not received any offer to salvage the Australian parent of the London-headquartered group.
Matt Ayres, partner at administrator Grant Thornton, said in a report to creditors released on Thursday night that placing the company into liquidation would also allow for more investigations to be undertaken into the groupâs affairs, including whether it was trading while insolvent on a cash flow test basis. ....
