Celebration of Life for Teresa (Teri) Golden to be held on June 19

A Celebration of Life for Teresa (Teri) Golden will be celebrated on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. All those who knew and loved Teri are welcome. The family hopes friends will share a short remembrance of her during the eulogy time.
Teri passed away in her home on Dec. 29, 2020. She had called South Lake Tahoe since 2007 and loved this area and serving the community in many ways. She loved the outdoors and the mountains in particular. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Teresa Diane Golden, known as Teri, passed away peacefully in her home on December 29, 2020. She was 76. Teri loved living in South Lake Tahoe. She was active in the Democratic Party, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, Christmas Cheer, the Drugstore Project, helping hikers on the Pacific Rim Trail, the AARP tax preparation, and many other endeavors. Teri was also a member of the Community Presbyter ....

In-person church services resume in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Following the U.S. Supreme Court s ruling that churches in California can once again open doors for in-person services, South Lake Tahoe places of worship have started to reopen.
The state s Blueprint Tier 1 prohibition of indoor worship services was challenged by three churches in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Prior to the challenge, a ban on indoor services led many churches to provide virtual services, while others defied orders and had indoor services even when the guidelines prohibited them.
The Court did rule against removing limits on capacity.
For counties in the widespread, or purple tier, churches can open indoors with masks, social distancing, cleaning protocols, and other modifications and activities must be limited to 25 percent of capacity. Moving to the red tier would keep the same guidance but going down to the yellow tier would expand occupancy to 50 percent. ....

As Tahoe partly reopens, some cheer, others wary of COVID-19

When Mayor Tamara Wallace looks out her office window from her perch within the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, she’s afforded a bird’s-eye view of the traffic along Route 50, which has been pretty thick since the pandemic began in March.
And if she’s at her aerie before 2 p.m., there’s no denying the foot traffic going in and out of the Red Hut Breakfast Cafe, which sits adjacent to the church’s parking lot. The owners Wallace’s longtime South Lake Tahoe neighbors have refused to close down their restaurant to indoor dining, despite state and local public health orders, which forbid indoor dining as coronavirus caseloads surge and regional ICU beds fill. ....

Food assistance in South Lake Tahoe through the holidays

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many people in the South Lake Tahoe area could use some extra help during the holidays, and local sources of free food are available to help ease some needs.
Bread & Broth will be open on Monday, December 21 and 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with bags of food. Also, their Friday food bag operation will not be open on Christmas Day but will resume on New Year s Day, January 1, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. They are located at St. Theresa Grace Hall at 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe.
Phoenix Food Pantry at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church is open for drive through or walk up bags of food on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. They are located at 2733 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. ....
