LAKE PLACID A representative of the Lake Placid Arts Alliance outlined the group’s proposal for a local public art master plan on Monday, which calls for the creation of an inventory of existing public art pieces, suggests the creation of a maintenance plan for those pieces moving forward and the creation of an art fund.
The plan, presented by LPAA Chairperson Lori Fitzgerald to the Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees, comes as officials consider relocating two sculptures created for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.
The Olympic Center on Main Street, which is operated by the state Olympic Regional Development Authority, is currently being renovated and two sculptures on the property, James Buchman’s “Vans for Ruth” and Carl Nesjar’s “Sonja Henie Ice Fountain,” are expected to be relocated elsewhere. LAKE PLACID The Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees has made some changes to the Main Street parking rules, including a slight increase in the hourly rate at the municipal parking lot across from the post office.
More changes, like extending the hours the village will collect parking fees, could be on the horizon.
Village trustees adopted three parking changes during their regular meeting on Monday. They approved an annual transferable pass of $1,000 for short-term rental owners with units that don’t offer off-street parking. The board approved a $50-per-day, per-spot fee for contractor parking, including work vehicles and dumpsters. Mayor Art Devlin said that before, contractors have used parking meters while using spaces on Main Street. Trustees also approved an increase to the parking fee a ....

LAKE PLACID North Elba Town Council members are mixed on whether to opt out of allowing marijuana sales.
“My personal opinion on marijuana and drugs is I’d do anything to keep it out,” town Supervisor Jay Rand told the Lake Placid News on Monday.
Rand said he’s against the sale of marijuana in the town of North Elba right now; however, as the board discusses it in the future, he is not ruling out changing his mind. He said having marijuana for sale on Main Street, Lake Placid, would be “a tough pill” for him to swallow. ....
