Man dies of suspected drowning on Lake Minnetonka

A man is dead after a suspected drowning on Lake Minnetonka on Thursday night.
The Hennepin County Sheriff s Office said its Water Patrol unit received a report of a swimmer who d gone underwater at Commons Beach in Excelsior at about 6 p.m.
Three Water Patrol boats responded along with South Lake Minnetonka Police, Excelsior Fire and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and a conservation officer saw the swimmer underwater.
According to the sheriff s office, the conservation officer and a deputy jumped into the water and were able to pull the victim out of the water and into a patrol boat. Lifesaving measures then began until they got to shore and paramedics took over. ....

Man drowns while swimming at beach on Lake Minnetonka
It s the second death on the lake in as many days.

A man drowned while swimming at Commons Beach on Lake Minnetonka Thursday evening.
Authorities were called to the beach in Excelsior on a report of a swimmer who d gone underwater and didn t resurface.
The Hennepin County Sheriff s Office Water Patrol sent three boats to search for the man, with South Lake Minnetonka Police, Excelsior Fire and the DNR also responding.
A DNR conservation officer saw the swimmer underwater, and along with a Hennepin County deputy pulled him onto the patrol boat, with lifesaving measures then starting. ....

Woman rescued from submerged vehicle

On Friday, Dec. 4, an Orono woman was driving home in Tonka Bay when she struck a utility pole and ended up in Lake Minnetonka, according to authorities.
Grace Hornbaker, 18, was rescued by Excelsior Fire District members, who happened to be passing by the accident while responding to a different medical call. The firefighters stopped their truck when one of them noticed the damaged pole.
One firefighter jumped into the lake after seeing headlights in the water.
Hornbaker was pulled out of the car and the icy water.
South Lake Minnetonka Police and medics with Hennepin County Medical Center assisted at the scene. ....

TONKA BAY, Minn. It could’ve been a dramatically different outcome, if not for the lifesaving efforts of first responders and a miracle of timing.
Around midnight on Friday, Dec. 4, Grace Hornbaker was driving a familiar road home – Manitou Road in Tonka Bay – when she suddenly veered off the road, hit a power line pole and ended upside down in Lake Minnetonka.
“I took a sec to think, O.K., where am I? What just happened? And just kind of realize my surroundings,” Hornbaker told KARE 11 on Thursday. ....
