EDMONTON A series of unplanned power outages left more than 9,000 people without power in St. Albert and northwest Edmonton on Monday. According to Fortis Alberta, approximately 9,010 customers were without power when an outage occurred around 2:20 p.m. Fortis Alberta told CTV News Edmonton that after performing a series of inspections, the cause of the outage was determined to be a raven making contact within AltaLink’s North Calder Substation. Residents in Lacombe Park along St. Albert Trail, southwestern Erin Ridge, Woodlands, Kingswood, western portions of Goodridge Corners, Akinsdale, Pineview, Kingswood, Forest Law, Sturgeon, Heritage Lakes, parts of Erin Ridge, and Braeside had lost power. ....

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and were in serious condition, and a third person suffered minor lacerations, officials said, after fire engulfed the Citadel Mews West Continuing Care Facility just before 8 p.m. City of St. Albert spokesperson Cory Sinclair said both continuing care residents and independent living residents were evacuated from the building. ....

In what it bills as its first film, Victorian Lyric Opera Company of Rockville, Maryland, has produced “A Gilbert and Sullivan Drawing Room.” Directed by Erica Ferguson with cinematography by Scott Nunn, this production uses an online Zoom meeting as a framing device. The show begins as a video meeting between an uninterested teenager, her eccentric grandfather, and several other characters playing a trivia game together. This serves as the point of entrance to the main story, which is a fabulous exploration of the lives and careers of the famous duo, lyricist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. ....
