A400M sales set to take off, says Airbus programme manager

With its 100th operational aircraft delivered and several key development hurdles cleared within the last 18 months, the A400M is now “at a turning point”, the Airbus Defence & Space official in charge of the programme believes.
Speaking exclusively to FlightGlobal on 20 May, Clive Schley, A400M programme head at the company’s military aircraft unit, also voiced his optimism about future additional sales of the Atlas – both to existing operators and new international customers.

Airbus is “very optimistic” that initial development activities can begin this year on the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) being jointly developed by France, Germany and Spain.
Currently the subject of intense negotiations between the nations and their respective industrial champions – Dassault, Airbus Defence & Space and Indra – the FCAS programme is designed to deliver a future manned fighter and unmanned remote carrier aircraft in the 2040s.

However, in recent weeks, German trade unionists have raised concerns that the planned workshare will cause an erosion of the country’s skills base. Dassault is leading the development of the future fighter, while Airbus is in charge of the remote carrier. ....

MELBOURNE, Australia Australia has selected Boeing’s AH-64E Apache Guardian as it’s next armed reconnaissance helicopter, replacing its Airbus Helicopters Tiger fleet under the Land 4503 program estimated to be worth AU$4-5 billion (U.S. $3–3.8 billion).
The selection of the Apache follows the release of a request for information in July 2019 and was announced by Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds on Friday.
The RFI called for 29 helicopters, with 24 to be based at a single location with two operational armed recon helo squadrons, and a five for training Army pilots and battle captains at the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre at Oakey, Queensland. The two operational Tiger squadrons are currently based in Darwin in the Northern Territory as part of the 1st Aviation Regiment. ....

Apache triumphs in Australian attack helicopter competition

Canberra has selected the Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian to fulfil its Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) requirement from 2025.
The decision will see the Apache replace the Airbus Helicopters Tiger, which is currently in service with the Australian Army.

“This new ARH capability will strengthen Australia’s armed reconnaissance force to better shape our strategic environment and deter actions against our national interest,” says defence minister Linda Reynolds.
