Largest Asteroid Of The Year To Buzz By Earth This Weekend

Largest Asteroid Of The Year To Buzz By Earth This Weekend
An asteroid being tracked by NASA will make it s closest pass by Earth this weekend.
Asteroid 2001 FO32 will skip by earth at about 77,000 MPH, Sunday. The space rock was discovered 20 years ago, and has been tracked by NASA s Center for Near Earth Object Studies ever since. The near-Earth asteroid will make its closest approach at a distance of about 1.25 million miles, or 5 1/4 times the distance from Earth to the Moon. There is no threat of a collision with our planet now, or for centuries to come.
In astronomical terms, 1.25 million miles is a close call. Hence why scientists have been keeping a close eye on the estimated 1,300 to 2,230 feet-wide asteroid. The fly-by on Sunday favors the southern hemisphere for the best viewing. Even if we could see the rock skip by up here in the north, a moderately sized telescope with an aperture of at least 8 inches would be needed to see 2001 FO32. ....

NASA says recent Northeast meteor ‘fragmented violently’ and caused tremors in the earth. Here’s why you should keep an eye to the sky, even in March
Stephanie Sigafoos, The Morning Call
March is known to be the slowest month of the year for meteor activity, making a recent fireball over Vermont perhaps slightly more newsworthy than it already was.
In a Facebook post, NASA’s Meteor Watch said more than 100 eyewitnesses reported seeing the meteor around 5:38 p.m. EST Sunday night. It first appeared about 52 miles above Mount Mansfield State Forest, then traversed 33 miles through the upper atmosphere before burning up above Beach Hill in Orleans County south of Newport. ....

Last Sunday, around 5:38 p.m., Mother Nature shows the residents under the sky how she has replenished her life and rejuvenated by herself. Obviously, people under the sky looked at the sky where it rained. The lights fall event has never been expected in the middle of the day.
Especially, North America, the state of Vermont was rattled by the unexpected guest that the big fireball rock, around 10 pounds of weight from the sky fell to the earth to astonish people with big surprised eyes.
According to NASA Meteor Watch on its Facebook, more than 100 people saw the meteor showers in the local time 5:38 p.m. Sunday, “There was no sound whatsoever,” Al Gregoritsch of South Burlington told  WPTZ. “I was very excited to see it. It’s a phenomenon I will never forget.” ....
