Baltimore restaurants and bars started to reopen Friday morning after weeks of mandated closures for in-person dining, but some argue it s still not enough to keep them profitable.|| Coronavirus updates | Maryland s latest numbers | Get tested | Vaccine Info ||Mayor Brandon Scott announced Wednesday that restaurants and bars could reopen at 25% capacity for indoor dining and 50% capacity for outdoor dining starting at 6 a.m. Friday as long as customers are out of the establishment within one hour. Twenty-five percent, unfortunately, the numbers just don t work, said Rob Frisch, co-owner of the Mount Washington Tavern. And the one-hour dining window, that doesn t make any sense to us. Some restaurants in Baltimore City are closing, at least temporarily, because of coronavirus restrictions prohibiting in-person dining.
The 11 News I-Team on Friday reviewed what the trends in coronavirus cases tell us about the city s strict restrictions.
Two of the restaurants closing are long-time fixtures in Baltimore. Restaurant owner Jackie McCusker has operated in the Canton community for almost 30 years, but Thursday was the last day of business for Mama s On the Half Shell, at least temporarily. McCusker is moving her Canton businesses to her Towson location, where Baltimore County allows 50% capacity. The city allows only carryout due to the pandemic. ....
