The organization of a new heart surgery center is underway now in Murfreesboro. If everything continues to go as planned, a finely tuned team of doctors, nurses and surgeons will open the new Cardiac Surgery Program on the second floor of Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. Ascension Saint Thomas invests millions in Rutherford health since 2010

Ascension also will be opening a $16 million ambulatory surgery center in August on 3 acres near an existing Saint Thomas Medical Partners building offering health care services on New Salem Highway near St. Andrews Drive.
Saint Thomas purchased the 3 acres in 2018 for $1.5 million. The development will include two operating rooms and one procedure room that provides services closer to where many patients live.
The 13,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center will include gastrointestinal, urology and general surgery services. The second floor of the building will house offices for Ascension Medical Group, as well as shell space to help accommodate growth.
Hospital Board Chairman Bill Jones is pleased with the healthcare growth and said it helps make Rutherford a more desirable community for people to live in and for companies to relocate to.

UPDATED: MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 66-year old Murfreesboro man involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Lebanon Pike (Hwy 231) Tuesday, June 2, has been identified as Tibor Koritsanszky.
Koritsanszky suffered severe injuries after the driver of another vehicle crossed the yellow double line colliding with his Toyota Prius. Koritsanszky was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extricated by Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department personnel. He was taken to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where he died about an hour later.
The preliminary investigation reveals a female driver of a silver 2010 Ford Escape was traveling in the southbound lane on Lebanon Pike. Her vehicle crossed the double center line colliding with the Prius, forcing it off the roadway into a ditch. The impact caused the driver of the Ford Escape to spin around and hit a gray 2020 Nissan Rogue. The driver of the Nissan only received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver of the Escape was not injured but was evaluated by medics as a precaution.

(MURFREESBORO) Rutherford County Schools received 1,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine this past Thursday (2/25/2021) for an upcoming employee clinic, but the school district must dispose of those vaccines after a storage error was discovered.
The doses needed for the vaccination clinic were then moved to a refrigerator and the staff used the supplied digital data logger to monitor the temperature. Friday morning, the digital data logger initially showed the temperature was correct, but then later gave an error code.
Upon checking with the Tennessee Department of Health about the error code, the health services department learned it was not supposed to store any of the doses in that particular freezer because it was not an approved model and the temperature had not been under constant monitoring.
