While most of us don’t love needles, it’s estimated that at least 10% of the population has a needle phobia that prevents them from seeking out essential medical care.
It’s a concern for health experts, looking out for both the health of their patients and the future of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“From a public health standpoint, we don’t have a good number on how many adults are delaying or refusing the vaccine based on blood-injection-injury phobia, but it could be as high as 10%, and 10-ish percent is going to keep us from achieving herd immunity,” says Dr Katherine K. Dahlsgaard, a licensed psychologist board certified in behavioural and cognitive psychology. ....

Weekend violence in Philly includes 2 fatally shot, a double stabbing and 5 wounded in shootings


Another violent weekend in Philadelphia included a double stabbing and two fatal shootings Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Philadelphia’s homicide rate is up 33% from 2020, with 169 homicides as of Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Office of the Comptroller. As of that day, there had been 512 nonfatal and 144 fatal shootings in the city.
This weekend’s incidents add to the tally.
A man fatally shot in the head and upper torso was found along the side of the road near the 1600 block of West Loudon Street in the city’s Logan section shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said he was pronounced dead at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia. ....

Leapfrog Gives Phoenixville, Pottstown Hospitals 'D' Grades

Leapfrog Group gave D safety grades to Phoenixville and Pottstown hospitals in its spring report, while Chester County Hospital and Paoli Hospital received A s. (Shutterstock)
PHOENIXVILLE, PA Hospital safety grades from Leapfrog were low for several Tower Health hospitals in Chester County, including Phoenixville Hospital, Brandywine Hospital, and Pottstown Hospital.
The three facilities were awarded grades of D by the Leapfrog Group, an organization the performs regular assessments of hospitals. Numerous Pennsylvania hospitals received top safety marks while others didn t quite measure up in The Leapfrog Group s annual spring safety grades.
The nonprofit health care watchdog group grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. ....
