Three London high school students have been awarded $5,000 scholarships for showing strength and perseverance in the face of adversity.
The awards, named after 19
th century novelist Horatio Alger, whose work often featured young men in poverty, were awarded to Alishba Farrukh of Sir Frederick Banting secondary school, Yihua Liu of London Central secondary school and Makela Dew of H. B. Beal secondary school.

Eight new COVID-19 cases in Middlesex-London, Elgin-Oxford vaccinations snapped up

MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting eight new COVID-19 cases Tuesday and no deaths.
That s a drop from the 27 cases reported on Monday, but the region has seen see-sawing daily case counts in the region in recent weeks.
The total number of cases in the area now stands at 6,318, with 5,993 resolved and 185 deaths, leaving 140 active cases.
The region also has four confirmed variant cases and 21 cases that have screened positive for a variant of concern.
Two variant cases are connected London-area schools, at Sir Frederick Banting and Saunders secondary schools.
There are also outbreaks at three schools – Bonaventure Meadows Public School, Sir Arthur Carty Catholic School and St. Mark Catholic School – and at six seniors facilities in the region. Another case was identfied at Emily Stowe Public School Tuesday. ....

According to Mr Abonu, the free supply of insulin to children project, tagged “Changing Diabetes in Children”, will start in 2021 in Ghana and Nigeria, in fulfillment of the company’s goal to ensure full access to its insulin.
Novo Nordisk, a multinational pharmaceutical company, on Saturday announced the introduction of a programme to supply free insulin to children living with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in Nigeria and Ghana from 2021.
Jude Abonu, Business Unit Head, English West Africa, Novo Nordisk, made the disclosure at a webinar organised by the company to mark the 2020 World Diabetes Day (WDD) with the theme “The Nurse and Diabetes”. ....
