Beverly Jean (Lawrence) Huckins, 90 of Pierre, SD passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00pm, Monday, May 10, 2021 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 3:00pm. Per church policy, masks will be required for service attendance. Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Memorials can be offered in her name to the Pierre Youth Orchestra or the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Pierre.
Beverly was born to Amida and Roy Lawrence on September 3, 1930, in Dupree, South Dakota. She was the middle child of 3. In 1951, Beverly married Robert Lyle Huckins and together they created a loving home and raised 7 children. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and history. ....

Independence –  Richard E. Engen, 83 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at ABCM Rehab. – East Campus in Independence.  He was born on September 1, 1937, in Clarion, Iowa, the son of Harold Hanson and Alma Henrietta (Marcus) Engen.  He graduated from high school in Clarion with the Class of 1955.  He then graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1959.  Mr. Engen taught high school social studies and driver’s education, and coached football, basketball, and baseball in the Independence Community School District in Independence.  He also was the school employee contract negotiator.  He retired in 1997.
On June 9, 1963, he and the former Joan Frances Stupp were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.  She preceded him in death in 1998.  Mr. Engen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Kiwanis Club in Independence, and an Independence City Councilman for 12 years.  ....
