A Maltese man has been elected chairman of Europe’s largest youth political organisation in a landslide plebiscite. Beppe Galea won the European Democrat Students post on Saturday with 98 per cent of the vote. He is the first Maltese national to hold the post. Galea, who also worked as a journalist with Newsbook, served as EDS secretary general during its 2020/21 term and spent years working in local youth political organisation SDM. He will now lead the EDS for a one-year term as its chair, along with his running mate Ivan Botoucharov, who will serve as EDS secretary-general. Under EDS rules, Galea and Botoucharov can run for up to a maximum of two terms. ....

06/03/2021 - 14:19 The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, was in an online meeting with students and representatives of EDS (European Democrat Students). Present at this meeting were Carlo Angrisano, president of EDS and Dr. Tobias Rüttershoff, director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Albania, who appealed to young Albanians to vote and take control of the country’s destiny. Even the head of DPYF, Belind Këlliçi during his speech said that the power of the vote is important for change. “On April 25, we must all pour into the polling stations throughout Albania to give a message of hope, to send positive signals, to bring optimism to all young people who want to stay in Albania, to say that the time of youth has come, the decade of youth has come and the Democratic Party will win the elections to govern together with you, the youth of this country, Albania towards Europe and to take Albania to Europe.” ....
