Online survey to help Oswego County improve evacuation plans


OSWEGO — Residents living in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone surrounding the nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point are encouraged to participate in an important evacuation planning survey. The purpose of the survey is to gather data to be used by Oswego County in improving evacuation plans for nuclear power plant emergencies.
The survey will be conducted entirely online at https://NMPsurvey.kld.engineering. The link can also be accessed through the Oswego County Emergency Management page on the Oswego County website, www.oswegocounty.com/emo.
“This is an important tool in our approach to emergency planning,” Emergency Management Office Director Cathleen Palmitesso said. “We hope people will take the time to complete the survey and provide us with valuable information for our emergency plans.” People are asked to complete the survey by Feb. 12. ....

Oswego County residents should prepare for winter storm


OSWEGO — Lake effect snow is in the forecast for this Christmas weekend and the Oswego County Emergency Management Office reminds residents of the safety precautions they should take during this or any winter storm.
“Oswego County residents are used to lake effect snow, but we should not become complacent during hazardous weather conditions,” said Cathleen Palmitesso, director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office. “Snow bands with low visibility can come upon us in an instant. Roads can become extremely slippery. Heavy snow and high winds can cause power outages.”
The storm forecast for Christmas Day on Friday, and Saturday, Dec. 26, is expected to begin with rain on Thursday, followed by a cold front overnight. Lake effect snow will develop during the day on Friday. ....

AT&T outage in Oswego County has been resolved

Oswego County, N.Y. A widespread AT&T outage in Oswego County has been resolved, according to the county’s emergency management office.
The county’s 911 center on Sunday reported a widespread statewide AT&T outage that affected the ability of AT&T customers to call 911.
AT&T customers should had to use another carrier or a landline to call 911.
The 911 center said that when AT&T customers call 911, their calls are dropped and it takes a few minutes for 911 center call-takers to return the calls.
The problem started at about 4 p.m. Sunday but was resolved early Monday morning, said Terry Bennett, an official at the Oswego County Emergency Management Office. ....
