Key Seacor Search Volunteer Fires Back at UCN For Extortion Claim

A volunteer search for the seven missing Seacor crew members continues while a cloud of accusations lingers from the United Cajun Navy.
Earlier this month there was a falling out between a group of volunteers and the UCN which has now led to president Todd Terrell taking legal action against two key volunteers. The United Cajun Navy leader filed a protective order this week in East Baton Rouge Parish accusing Christifer DeRouen of cyberstalking and extortion, claiming that the search volunteer attacked him on social media and through text messages.
Terrell also accused Scott Daspit (father of missing Seacor crew member Dylan Daspit) of cyberstalking, saying that he worked in harmony with DeRouen to extort money from him over their demand to see donations that they claim Terrell wasn t being fully transparent about. ....

United Cajun Navy Suspends Search After 'Accusations' Over Funds

The United Cajun Navy has announced they are suspending their search for the missing Seacor crew members.
It has been nearly three weeks since the Seacor Power vessel capsized off the Louisiana coast, and seven of the 19 crew members are still missing. The United Cajun Navy has been one of the main groups leading volunteer search efforts, taking in tens of thousands of dollars in donations, but today the UCN announced their efforts will be coming to an end.
The UCN made the announcement via their official Facebook Page.
Although the organized and coordinated search efforts have been suspended, the United Cajun Navy will still use ATVs to search Holly Beach and the coast east of Texas. ....

UPDATE: We ve spoken with the United Cajun Navy today, and they say they ve got records for all the donations they ve accepted and spent in the Seacor Power rescue effort.
The UCN has a platinum status as a 501c 3, which means that all donations and expenditures are documented and audited and provided to the IRS, said spokesman Brian Tracsher.
He said that, unfortunately, this situation - accusations that they re not spending donations correctly - seems to happen in every deployment.
The bottom line is, we know who is behind it, we go through this on almost every mission, and the good thing is that now we ve been through it enough that we know how to handle it. We know if you take away the platform these people are seeking, they ll eventually choke on their own oxygen and go away. That s what is going to happen here, it s happened every time.
