Enlighten Festival at your National Library

The National Library will again be transformed into a living mural from Friday 26 February to Monday 8 March as part of the 11th annual Enlighten Festival. Inspired by the United Nation’s International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, in 2021 the Library is highlighting the story of Australian produce and revealing some of the fruity tales held in our vast collections. From artist Ellis Rowan’s richly coloured native fruits to advertising posters for pineapples, from peach canning to winemaking, the illuminations and accompanying soundscape reflect on the role fruit has played in agriculture, export industries, work and leisure, and in the food we eat. The Library’s projections, animated for the first time this year, will be visible from 8pm to 11pm each night starting Friday 26 February and going until Monday 8 March inclusive.
