OIC Contact Group reaffirms its support to Kashmir cause
CAIRO, Feb 6 (INP): The Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) reaffirmed OIC’s commitment and support to the Kashmiri struggle for their right to self determination, as enshrined in the UN Security Council resolutions.
The Contact group met on the sidelines of the 12th Islamic Summit Conference in Cairo on Tuesday. The meeting coincided with the Kashmir Solidarity Day (5 February) on which the people of Pakistan express their solidarity with the Kashmiris.
The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar and OIC Secretary General, Mr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. It was also attended by high ranking officials of the Contact Group members i.e Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Niger. The representative of Egypt being the host of the Summit also participated. ....

NEW YORK (Dunya News) - A top Pakistani diplomat has expressed the hope that the United Nations under the new Biden administration, will revive its active engagement at the United Nations to enable the world community to effectively respond to global challenges such as the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, terrorism and promoting Sustainable Development goals (SDGs).
“Everyone at the UN is very happy that America is back, and the new U.S. administration has committed itself to participating actively in the UN, reviving multilateralism, and working with other member states to promote the goals and objectives of the UN Charter,” Munir Akram, Pakistan permanent representative to the UN, said in a virtual seminar organized by US Army War College. ....

Amidst the massive national focus on the legal and political events in the run-up to the Senate elections, something of import happened on the Pakistan-India front that has the potential to open up space for a low-level engagement between Islamabad and New Delhi.
The announcement of a ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC), which was originally signed in 2003, is the first significant step forward in a bilateral relationship that has been on a steep decline ever since Indian Prime Minister Modi swept to power in his second term.
Another way of gauging the importance of this engagement is to juxtapose it in the context of Modi’s unilateral annexation of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir as well as the post-Pulwama military stand-off that could have spiraled into a full-fledged war with Pakistan. ....
