WFISD honors PIE for student support

Wichita Falls ISD recognized partners and mentors Tuesday who have made outstanding contributions to schools through the Partners in Education program, officials said.
WFISD handed out PIE awards at an reception to honor this school year s 32nd anniversary winners, officials said.

Area seniors win scholarships
Luke Haehn of Archer City and Kacee Teichman of Scotland were selected to receive the 2021 All American Scholar Award sponsored by Catholic Life Insurance.
Catholic Life awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and academic achievements and have made a difference in their communities.
Haehn attends Archer City High School and plans to attend Texas Tech University ion the fall. He is the son of Dwayne and Debra Haehn. His activities that include Student Council, PALS, FCCLA, Principles Council, Senior Class Treasurer, Speech and Robotics, BEST Robotics, football, basketball, HOBY Leadership and lawn mowing. Haehn has volunteered with Teens Make a Difference Day, Mission Arlington, Faith Mission Refuge, Hurricane Harvey Clean Up, and for veterans. ....

Beloved Wichita Falls doctor beats COVID-19 after 105 days in hospital

Surrounded by family and close friends, Dr. Rodrigo Menchaca waved and thanked the well-wishers participating in a drive-by welcome home event Saturday at the MPEC parking lot.
Honking horns, ringing cowbells and holding signs, they poured out their love for a man who has touched countless lives, and saved many of them over the years.
Menchaca has been an emergency room physician for 35 years at United Regional Health Care System.
He has returned home after a long battle with COVID-19. In all, he was hospitalized for 105 days and 46 of those were on a ventilator.
One of the people in the long line of cars asked how he was doing. I m doing great, thanks to all the prayers you guys sent up to Heaven, replied Menchaca. ....

Crime Stoppers of Wichita Falls needs your help to solve a cold case the murder of Rickey Shawn Miser, according to a media release.
The murder happened April 4, 2003, in the 2600 block of Iowa Park Road when unknown suspects killed Miser, according to the media release.
The 25-year-old was discovered in his car with gunshot wounds when police responded about 10:18 p.m. April 4, 2003, to a single-car accident on Iowa Park Road, according to Times Record News archives.
Police believed Miser was shot while sitting in his car in the parking lot of United Supermarket on Iowa Park Road, according to TRN archives. ....
