Nannies, employers hail protection of domestic workers in the UAE


Dubai: Domestic workers, employers and advocates of migrant workers’ rights have hailed the recent agreement by the UAE and Philippines on household service workers (HSWs) and called it a landmark pact in ensuring workers’ welfare.
The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and Philippine Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) announced on Tuesday the official deployment of domestic workers from the Philippines to the UAE which stopped in 2014 will resume next month.

Philippines, UAE ink ‘historic’ labor accord; household workers’ deployment to resume March 31

The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday signed a “historic” labor agreement which gives greater protection to Filipino household service workers (HSWs), according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In a statement, the DOLE said that both countries agreed, at the conclusion of the two-day joint committee meeting (JCM), to resume the deployment of HSWs to UAE, effective March 31, 2021.
The deployment of HSWs to UAE has been suspended since 2014.
The Philippine delegation head at the JCM Labor Undersecretary Claro Arellano said the new deployment scheme will now be covered by a Unified Employment Contract that provides stringent measures to protect Filipino HSWs pursuant to the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte. ....

MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday announced that the deployment of household service workers (HSWs) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will resume at the end of the month.
In a press statement, Labor Undersecretary Claro Arellano, head of the Philippine delegation, said the sending of Filipino workers to the Arab country will resume on March 31 which was agreed upon during a two-day Joint Committee Meeting in Manila from Monday to Tuesday.
Arellano said the measure will now be covered by a Unified Employment Contract (UEC) that provides stringent measures to protect Filipino HSWs pursuant to the directives of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. ....
