Special Olympics Virginia representatives talked with state lawmakers about why their organization deserves funding.
The speakers included Matt Crowder, a Special Olympian from Roanoke who spoke with Rep. Ben Cline. Crowder believes the organization has changed his life and will continue to do the same for others in his position.
“It’s taught me to be responsible, it’s taught me how to be part of a team,” Crowder said. “I’m now a leader when I’m with my teammates, on and off the court.” ....

RICHMOND, Va. Special Olympics Virginiaâs annual Polar Plunge, which is usually held at Virginia Beach, has been transformed into a statewide virtual event to âplunge it your wayâ in 2021.

ROANOKE, Va. – In less than a month, individuals and teams from across Virginia will take part in the 2021 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Virginia, but with a twist.
This year’s Plunge will not happen in person. Instead, people get to “plunge their way” and decide how they want to take the plunge.
Nancy Morehouse, Southwest Region Director for Special Olympics Virginia, said the change could attract a lot of first-time plungers who may have been wary of jumping into the New River in February for the annual plunge. ....

BLACKSBURG, Va. – In just a few weeks, athletes, volunteers and community members from all across Virginia will once again take the plunge to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Virginia.
The annual Polar Plunge will happen with a twist in 2021. Instead of hundreds of people in southwest Virginia gathering in one place to hop into the New River on a frigid, February day, plungers will get to “plunge it their way” and use creative, socially-distanced and safe ways to take the plunge in their own, unique way. ....
