ROANOKE, Va. – In less than a month, individuals and teams from across Virginia will take part in the 2021 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Virginia, but with a twist.
This year’s Plunge will not happen in person. Instead, people get to “plunge their way” and decide how they want to take the plunge.
Nancy Morehouse, Southwest Region Director for Special Olympics Virginia, said the change could attract a lot of first-time plungers who may have been wary of jumping into the New River in February for the annual plunge. ....

Dougherty will lead solid waste management engineering design, operations support, and construction quality assurance projects, integrating programs such as prevention, recycling, composting, and disposal with landfill systems and technologies to provide more comprehensive value to clients. BLACKSBURG, Va. – More than 200 teams across the Commonwealth have signed up to take the Polar Plunge to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Virginia.
The 2021 Plunge will happen with a twist: instead of teams in the New River Valley and Roanoke Valley jumping into the freezing New River in February, each team will get to decide on a safe, socially-distant but still cold way to participate.
The annual Polar Plunge supports the programs and mission of Special Olympics, which works to provide year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. ....

In November 2020, the Little League
® International Board of Directors began implementing a plan to evaluate and strengthen the organizational structure of Little League International, with the appointment of Patrick W. Wilson as Chief Operating Officer. To continue these efforts, a new operational and regional leadership alignment, focused on supporting local Little League programs, has been established.
Dan Velte has been elevated to Senior Operations Executive, overseeing the Little League International and Regional operations, along with a series of additional changes to provide structure and support to the United States regional offices and district operations.
To advance Little League’s strategic and league development initiatives, Nina Johnson-Pitt has been elevated to the newly created position of Senior Strategy Executive. Ms. Johnson-Pitt will work across all departments leading the long-term strategic planning ....
